UsersWP sets it for you when users register or edit their account.

How UsersWP sets the display name

On registration, UsersWP uses the Display Name field if the form has one and it was filled in. If not, it uses the first and last name. If those are empty too, it falls back to the username.

When a user saves their account page with first and last name fields on it, the display name is updated to “First Last”, unless the user filled in the Display Name field, which then wins.

So the simplest setup is to add First Name and Last Name to the register form in UsersWP > Form Builder, and keep the Display Name field on the account form if you want users to choose their own.

Fix existing users

Users who registered before you added those fields may still show their username. Edit the user in Users > All Users, fill in First Name and Last Name, choose the full name in “Display name publicly as” and click Update User. Users can also do it themselves by saving their UsersWP account page.

Show the author name on listings

UsersWP has an Author Box that shows the author’s picture, display name and bio on single posts. To use it on GeoDirectory listings:

Go to UsersWP > General > Author box.

Tick Enable Author Box.

In Post types, add your listing post types, for example Places.

Choose above or below the content and save.

You can also place it yourself with the UWP > Author Box block or shortcode, see UWP > Author Box.

If your theme prints its own author line and still shows the username after the display name is set, the theme is printing a different field (such as the login name). Ask the theme author which field it uses, or use the Author Box instead.

WordPress shows a user’s Display Name wherever a theme or plugin prints the author, so the fix is to make sure each user’s Display Name holds their full name.
