I’ve toyed with this some more. I think the privacy settings you mentioned are great and may be all I need the more I mess with it. It’s great that there’s an option for users to completely hide their profile. The more I learn about UserWP and using it with GD the more I think it’s fine.
What I am wondering about now is if there a way to find users in your area.
Also, you may recall me not wanting to show Authors on my supreme theme listings. The more I use UserWP the more I can imagine certain CPT’s benefiting from this. What would be VERY COOL is to give the user control of whether a listing shows the author image.
For example, if I add a listing for a restaurant on my site VeganLinked.com I think it would be fine to show me as the author until the listing is claimed. Then when the listing is claimed the new owner of the listing may not want to show the author. So, if they are “hiding” as a UserWP does this mean they do not show in listings for Supreme Theme? If so, that would be really cool. I may go ahead and take out all the CSS I added to permanently hide authors from listings.
I can imagine a busy restaurant owner not wanting a personal profile and author image on their listing. However, someone that created a freelance listing that’s always looking for work may enjoy the social side and want to show an author image. I can see UserWP working nicely with Supreme theme like this if it doesn’t do this already. It’s super late, if I crash now I’ll get 3 hours of sleep. I just can’t test it right now or dig into your addons to see if there is some way to make this happen, does it do anything like this in any way or is there an integration addon or something?
Thanks Patrik, I wonder if it’s because I created this user profile before I adding this plugin… When I have time I’ll try a different account.
I have a lot of users that have already joined prior to my adding this plugin. I hope it works appropriately for them…

I noticed the “Users to exclude” but I didn’t understand its functionality. I felt like it was for individual users, is there an explanation of this feature somewhere?
Thanks for reminding me about the fields having privacy. That helps, it doesn’t totally resolve what I was after but definitely helps.
Another cool thing would be to only allow visitors to see users if they’re logged in. This would make users feel more secure. This is the way facebook is. At least, facebook gives you the option individually to allow or not allow your profile to be public. Are any of these an option or going to be?
This reply has been marked as private.Hey, I tried it again today and it’s working as it should now. I’m not sure if it’s something you guys did or what. But, now I can sign in with both browsers and my phone using the social login without that error. 🙂

one thing I noticed kind of weird is the UWP username and the actual facebook “username” are not the same.
on facebook the username is also your “pretty url”. what you use for logging in also your username. In my case my facebook username and pretty url is neofilm. when i use UWP it wants to use Jeff_Adams as my username and pretty url. this inconsistency is likely to cause confusion as it already did with me.
When I had “Let the user enter username?” selected and “Let the user enter email?” I became confused when i was using the social log in. Because my username is not Jeff_Adams but that was what UWP decided it was all the sudden (it seems to be using the “Nickname”). So, I put “neofilm” and this worked in that it was now my UWP username and pretty URL. However, the next time I tried to use the social login I of course had to start all over with the signup process or type in my new username. Essentially this defeats the purpose of having a easy social login.
If I turn off allowing the user to change username then they’re forced into a URL that they may not at all like. Also, if the user didn’t create a username and just used the default UWP (nickname that they may not have none even happened) then they may not know how to sign in.
I guess it doesn’t use the same password as the user uses on facebook either. Because I tried logging in without UWP and I couldn’t, didn’t know the password it seems even though I know my facebook password. This may be a security thing. So, that’s probably fine I suppose…
I’m just not sure this is how other sites use social login. At least I have never noticed the username not being the same when using social login on other sites…
It’s working now. Thanks Guust, I feel like I should have found that. man, I wasted some time on that hung up on those instructions on the plugin. That really messed me up. Someone will probably benefit from having a link to those more accurate instructions instead of those instructions on the plugin 🙁

I had went through all this

Then got to the plugin instructions and when that didn’t work I came here.Actually, I followed the instructions on the “Social Login” where it says:
First go to: https://developers.facebook.com/apps
Select Add a New App from the Apps menu at the top.
Fill out Display Name, Namespace, choose a category and click Create App
Go to Settings page and click on Add Platform. Choose website and enter in the new screen your website url in App Domains and Site URL fields. They should match with the current hostname veganlinked.com
Go to the Status & Review page and choose yes where it says Do you want to make this app and all its live features available to the general public?
Go back to the Dashboard page and past the created application credentials (APP ID and Secret) into the boxes above.
And that’s it!I took “that’s it” literally in regard to instructions. It didn’t link to the page you’re suggesting. I’ll try that. It would have really helped if it linked to the documentation.
I thought I was just trying to login. It doesn’t show an option or qualify what it is.
If I’m not logged doesn’t social “login” through the facebook icon attempt to “log in” and if you’re not already a user then take you to the registration page?
