Hello,
I am using GeoDirectory and UsersWP and have three ‘challenges’ with UsersWP:1) After registration my users receive an email with a link to activate their accounts. Quite often (not always) this activation linke does not work. The user is lead to the login form and a message “Something went wrong” is displaid.
2) I cannot see which users have successfully activated their account and for which users the activation link did not work. To display unactivated members, I have installed the plugin “Unconfirmed” . However, this plugin continuously tells me that no unactivated members are found even though there definitely ARE unactivated members who (sometimes) contact me and tell me that they have not been able to activate their accounts.
3) The only way for me to get the members accounts activated seems to be to re-send an activation link from the users overview in the backend. However, this option is only offered for very few members (by far not for all of them) and further more, when I resend the activation link, it is not always received by the user. Therefore I have installed the Email-Log plugin where I can see the content of all emails sent via the system. So I can copy the new activation link and send it again in a normal email – which is of course a very time-consuming and extremely unelegant way.
Three questions:
1) What could be the reason that sometimes the activation link works well and sometimes not? Is there anything I can do about that?2) How can I see the unactivated members in the backend?
3) Is there a chance for me to just activate non-activated accounts from the backend instead of resending, copying and re-resending the activation link again?
Thank you very much for your support
BirgitJune 16, 2019 at 6:55 pm #4536Thanks for your questions.
1. Is this a regular occurrence? If we test it will we see the issue?
2. Resending the activation link is only available for users that have not activated yet. If the email shows in email log, then a good next step is to contact the host or get an SMTP plugin.
3. I will flag your question for the developers as I don’t see one.
June 16, 2019 at 8:40 pm #4537Hi Alex,
1. Yes, quite regular. I hope so.
2. You mean to make sure the email has really been sent?
3. Are you familiar with the plugin named “unconfirmed”? This plugin is supposed to allow account activation from the backend, however it does not seem to work properly.Do you need the login credentials for my site?
Thank you
BirgitJune 17, 2019 at 4:17 am #45381. Please share the URL and we will take a look
2. Yes, if they are not arriving (being sent)
3. No, we have a different moderation plugin/addon for UserWP https://userswp.io/downloads/moderation/ – I have flagged your topic for the developers to add their comment.June 17, 2019 at 6:09 am #4539Hi,
We have added the functionality to manually activate the user from backend which will be available in the next release of the plugin. Also, the activation links are expired after 24 hours by default in WordPress so that can be the case they are not able to activate their account. If this is not the case then let us know your website admin details and we will try to register and troubleshoot the issue.

PatrikJune 17, 2019 at 8:30 am #4541Hi Patrik,
I didn’t know the activation links are only valid for 24 hours. So this might be the problem.
So, in the users overview, when the link “resend activation link” is shown, this means that this account is not yet activated and all the other accounts are activated? Thanks
BirgitJune 17, 2019 at 10:18 am #4542Yes that is true!
June 19, 2019 at 5:05 pm #4546Hi Patrik,
I just tried a test-registration and the activation link caused problems as it seems to do with quite a few users. the link is not clickable and must be copied into the browser address field. And when it opens, the UsersWP login form is diplaid with the message “Something went wrong”.As far as I can see, the activation link contains the nickname chosen by the user. Correct?
Now if a user chooses a nickname consisting of two words with a space in between (some of my users have done this), might that be the reason that the activation link does not work?
If so, the UsersWP-Nickname field should not allow nicknames with a space in between and tell the user he/she must choose a nickname containing of only one word. Could you or your colleagues change that?
And if this is the reason and I send them another activation link, how can I be sure that this one works if the new activation link also refers to the nickname?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
BirgitJune 20, 2019 at 8:13 am #4547Hi,
Only last night another user has registered with a username of three words (his company name) and asked me why is activation link is not working.
how can I achieve in the USersWP-form that the user only can enter a username WITHOUT spaces?
Thank you very much for a quick response
BirgitJune 20, 2019 at 9:31 am #4548Hi,
The username with space can’t be an issue as I have tried same on my site and it works properly. The issue can be either activation link is expired or invalid key. Also, if you don’t want to allow users to enter the username with spaces then you can try our “Restrict User Signups” add on https://userswp.io/downloads/restrict-user-signups/ which allows restricting users to enter the username with spaces.

actually the user name indeed seems to be an issue, as just those users who choose a username with spaces do have problems with their activation links.Attached I am sending screenshots of the activation links of two users with the following usernames:
Christoph Dieterle Hochzeitsfotografie
and
TeamBodyCoatchThe activation link of Christoph Dieterle Hochzeitsfotografie is devided by the spaces in the nickname and does not work.
TeamBodyCoatch has no problem with the activation, as the link is one single string, not devided by any spaces.
June 24, 2019 at 8:44 am #4567…. I mean the link is devided by the spaces in the username … not nickname.

It seems the link is breaking due to white space in the login name. So it should be escaped so that it replaces whitespace with %20 and the link will not break. Can you provide me FTP details in private reply so that I can do some changes and check if it fixes the issue or not?
