I implemented UWP after already having a site going. This means all the existing users already have accounts. I just noticed that it seems the username can be changed but this does not change the pretty URL. I also noticed a few other things, like if the username is an email it doesn’t use the username for the pretty url it uses the users’ name. And, I also noticed that in the backend existing users it seems, their first and last name are in the first name field.

I would really love for users to be able to change their pretty URL. I think this would be good for your plugin because there may be a lot of sites already active that want to use UWP and offer their existing users a chance to claim pretty URL’s.

Sorry, but that is not possible because of WordPress, not UserWP, specifically because usernames cannot be changed, and username is used for the URL because it is the only unique data associated with the user besides ID.

Oh, one more thing. I suppose the username field is basically useless once a username is already set. Since that’s the case I wonder if the developers can make it so the username field just goes away after it’s been used/set. This would help prevent any confusion and explaining to users what’s up…

Username will not go away because many sites use it prominently.

The WP backend editor allows the user to choose their display name, to switch from username to other profile fields, if they have access, and third party plugins can set that sitewide.

I’m not saying make username go away, i’m saying the field after it’s been set. Because changing it does nothing. So, it’s like why even be there to change when it does nothing. It shows a new username when it’s been changed but it doesn’t literally change the username so it’s seeming to accomplish something when it does not. So, ideally this username field would go away after it’s been set because changing it does nothing.

Also, I wonder if the pretty url could be something the developers could do independent of the username. This way someone could set the Pretty Url and change it later. And, if someone is installing UWP on a site that already has users their existing users wont be out of luck for a pretty url.

The username field can be removed from the Account form using the form builder setting: “Show only in Register Form”.

I like the field, when it works, it only works when it’s a new user. After that it needs to be hidden.
