I installed the mailchimp plugin, I wanted to give users a chance to opt into my mailing list when they join. I set the addon to “Require Double Opt-in?” by clicking “This will require the user to click a link in an email before they are subscribed.”
Then I tested this by opening an in-private browser and selecting “Subscribe to our newsletter” using a unique email. I checked this email and did not receive a notification from Mailchimp.
I did receive a notification of the new user. I tried this twice with different emails. Never received a notification from Mailchimp.
Neither of the new users I created opting in were added to my mailchip list either.
When I unchecked “Require Double Opt-in?” everything worked.
I even went back and checked Double Opt-in again and tried it a third time with this option selected. It did not work. It only appears to work when this is unchecked. I even have double opt-in selected in Mailchimp.
November 24, 2018 at 5:56 am #3245It works every time I test it on my test site.
Are your test users already subscribed maybe?
Are the mailchimp emails in the spam of your test users? Thanks
November 24, 2018 at 4:09 pm #3250Thanks for checking.
No, these test user emails were not already in my mail chimp list.
And no emails went into my spam folder either.
It does work when said Require Double Opt-in? is not checked though.

It appears that Opt-in only works when both are selected.
If opt-in is selected by itself it does not appear to work.
If send welcome is selected by itself that works.
For some reason when you tried it I didn’t get a new subscriber email, but that doesn’t really matter I suppose.
Attached are all the things that should happened based on what is selected (in addition to GD notifications which all seem to be working).
So, the only issue really seems to be when opt-in is selected by itself.
November 25, 2018 at 3:28 am #3258I think I will personally just use the welcome email when it’s all said and done as that seems totally sufficient and in effect is as good as opt-in and to me a better option. I think that is sufficient. You’re welcome to mess with my site some more to test it as long as you’re careful 🙂
November 25, 2018 at 3:46 am #3259The difference I find between your setup and my test setup, is that it looks like your MailChimp settings are not sending notifications to admin, and no welcome emails to the subscriber either.
Maybe check your MailChimp settings?November 25, 2018 at 7:24 pm #3260Personally, I’m fine with just having UWP prompt a welcome email. I just thought you may want to know that the double opt-in appears only to work when both the UWP mailchimp settings for send welcome and double opt-in are selected. It appear not to work when just opt-in is selected. This seems to be irrelevant as to how my mailchimp is setup since double opt-in only works when both double opt-in and send welcome message are selected.
If there is a specific setting that needs to be set in Mailchimp then it seems like this would ideally be stated somewhere in the UWP Mailchimp interface. Exactly what settings and where are they in Mailchimp. I’ve looked twice and it all seems to be setup correctly. And, like I was saying, double opt-in works when both are selected.
November 25, 2018 at 10:18 pm #3261I cannot replicate that on my test site. I get an opt-in email every time from MailChimp, even if I un-tick “Send MailChimp Welcome Email?”.
Even if on MailChimp I do not have “Enable Double Opt-in?” ticked.I’ll get the developers to have a closer look.
November 26, 2018 at 8:04 am #3262Hi Jeff,
The mailchimp subscription works perfect. When I checked on your site I received confirmation email. You can check by putting the shortcode
[uwp_mailchimp]
in page as well instead of registering user each time. I have tested via both registration form and shortcode. For welcome email you need to enable it from the list setting. You can follow the steps from here: https://mailchimp.com/help/enable-or-disable-final-welcome-email/
Let me know your inputs here.
Regards,
PatrikNovember 26, 2018 at 12:32 pm #3264Thanks everyone, apparently it’s working now. I just tried it again with just double opt-in selected and it worked this time. I tried it at least 5 times on two different days with different emails each time before and for some reason only having double opt-in wasn’t working by itself. I wished I would have videod it, lol. Anyways, thanks again! It’s working perfectly.
