    Hi,

I’ve come over to this forum so that I don’t get told off for posting in the GeoDirectory one 🙂

Right – the original reason I was looking at UWP is because I was told that there is no way for a user to edit their profile from the front end in GeoDirectory, for eg profile details, adding a profile image, changing their password etc, which at first glance UWP DOES allow.

Two things I can’t get my head around though that need clearing up before I put it onto my website –

    1) I notice that there is a page called ‘login’. Does this page overwrite the Geodirectory ‘login’ page and replace it with a UWP one?

    2) I notice from the docs that if a user needed/wanted to change their password to my website, that they would first need to be logged out. How does this work then? (see atttachment – Shortcodes – Change Password – Must NOT be logged in) I would have thought that the easiest way to change a password is to put in the original one, then put in the new one, whilst being logged in. Or – to just enter the new password and confirm it, again whilst being logged in. Take the Geodirectory website for example – if I went to ‘Edit My Profile’ there is an option to ‘Change Password’ at the bottom – whilst I’m logged in.

Any clarification on the above two items would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Ramon,

let me try and help you understand 🙂

    1. I would recommend using the UWP one if installed.

    2. It looks like the docs are wrong, it does work when logged in, i will flag this for Giri to look at and correct.

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

Well I must say that’s a nice offer – thanks for that!

Yes, I think that the problem I was having the other day (re new user logon from an old account) was probably due to me still having the old UWP logon page activated – ie I didn’t select ‘Delete the whole shebang’ option in the settings, meaning that the user was probably trying to logon with a non-existent account.

Yesterday though, I went through and deleted all the UWP pages, so all should be working fine now.

So – according to the docs, they reckon that any UWP created pages will override any GeoDirectory pages – so I’m guessing that the new UWP logon page will take preference?

And also in the docs, it says somewhere that even old settings will be overridden, so if I were to add that today, someone from a few weeks back would have no problems logging in to the new website.

    Is that right?

No one should have problems loggin in from anywhere.

I think just now u could use both but u should pick one to use. In next release i think it will auto redirect.

Hmmm… well I had one user in particular that couldn’t login, and couldn’t get a password reset. So I reset their password manually, and immediately whilst they were still on the phone, they got a notification that their password had now been reset.

So from that, I can assume that their username was correct, and their email was correct, and that emails were indeed going out from the website, but they just were not receiving any password updates.

So I don’t know what was going off in that case.

Right then, this post title should be changed now to ‘Many Things I can’t Get My Head Around’ after my latest run out in adding UsersWP.

First off – the plugin DOES NOT delete all the excess pages on removing the plugin. Even after making sure that I checked ‘remove all instances of this bloody thing on deletion’ I still had to go through and delete all the new pages yet again.

Next – I was told in the Geodirectory forum that if I needed something to allow user profile editing, then I’d need to install UsersWP. Ok, so where is the option that allows user profile editing?

Frankly, this has been done all wrong. Surely it would be far more simple to just add a logon box, and then when a user is logged on, there is a new link to ‘Edit Profile’.

A total nightmare to work with, I’ll look for something else until all the bugs have been ironed out.

Not sure whether you have gone through our docs. https://userswp.io/docs/category/core-plugin/

You can go through that to get a better picture of what userswp is all about.

First off – the plugin DOES NOT delete all the excess pages on removing the plugin. Even after making sure that I checked ‘remove all instances of this bloody thing on deletion’ I still had to go through and delete all the new pages yet again.

The plugin does not delete any of the userswp created pages. That was intentional. This is because pages like /register /login etc also created by other plugins like WooCommerce. So deleting those pages while deleting the userswp plugin would cause even bigger issues.

Next – I was told in the Geodirectory forum that if I needed something to allow user profile editing, then I’d need to install UsersWP. Ok, so where is the option that allows user profile editing?

If you are asking that question then its very clear you have not gone through our docs. You can look at the account page screenshot in this page.

    https://userswp.io/docs/userswp-screenshots/

Your users need to visit yourdomain.com/account page to edit their profile.

Frankly, this has been done all wrong. Surely it would be far more simple to just add a logon box, and then when a user is logged on, there is a new link to ‘Edit Profile’.

UsersWP is already a very simple plugin. You are getting confused with a widget box. UsersWP is not a widget box but it is a plugin.

All you have to do is activate the plugin. Visit the Appearance > Menu section and then add the links in your Menu locations. Thats it as far as I know. No more additional configuration required.

Fresh install of UsersWP creates all the userswp pages and assign them in UserWP General settings. If page already exists with the same name, then those page creation will be skipped.
You need to manually creates those pages and assign them in settings in that case.

A total nightmare to work with, I’ll look for something else until all the bugs have been ironed out.

I’m happy to fix if there are bugs. But you need to convince me that they are really bugs.
If you have not gone through the docs, then blaming the plugin is not gonna help anyone.
