Spam Registration

    Greetings, My site is getting a bunch of faulty registrations, I suspect spam registrations. I have the recaptua add-on installed but that doesn’t seem to be helping at all. They must not be going through the front end but are registering from the back end? I am using UsersWP in conjunction with GeoDirectory. Have also installed the recaptua for GeoDirectory for Add listing. Any ideas about what I could do?

    Hi Terry,

    Can you give me wp-admin in a private reply (only staff can see) and i’ll check your settings, it should all be good unless:
    1. you only recently added recaptcha (it can take a few days to start working properly)
    2. They are real spammers (not robots).

    Hi Terry,

    yes it is possible that they are registering through the wp-login.php?action=register page. I’ve added a task for our developers to add the reCAPTCHA widgets in both front end and back end forms.

    In the mean time, as Stiofan said, even if you have reCAPTCHA widgets everywhere it won’t stop real human spammer.

    For that you could use a plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/cleantalk-spam-protect/

    It cost only $8 per year and it does a tremendous job. Totally worth it.

    Thanks guys, I appreciate the response. I will keep monitoring for a bit to see if the recaptcha kicks in. Have not had any more weird registrations for awhile now, was getting a lot before I installed recaptcha. Only 1 this morning, but perhaps it was still “kicking in.” I will definitely be looking to update as soon as the back end additions have been added. And I will definitely check out the plugin you suggested above. Thanks!!

    Hi,

    Cleantalk will not block logins… just spam registration, comments and so on, I don’t even think there are similar settings.

    Please avoid hijack other’s people tickets and always open your own.
