User Bio

    The user bios are going to be a spam magnet i notice that you strip any attempts to add links which is good but spammers still try to leave unlinked urls in the bios.

    Is there any way to restrict this? so that only users in certain groups like authors and above can have a bio?

    Or am i just better removing the bios altogether

    There is no option to prevent users adding any plain text to the bio.
    I’ll get a developer to have a look at your question too in case there is a simple way to restrict bio to authors and admins.

    Hi,

    The content added to the bio text area field will not allow adding HTML tags but if the URL is written then it will be considered as a plain text and will be allowed to store. To allow it for admin and authors roles only, you have to do some customizations as it is not possible at the moment to restrict it. You can make it optional field and give some class which you can hide using CSS if the current user is author or admin but if you are displaying bio on registration then there will be no idea if the user is admin or author.

    Thanks for you help, I’ve noindexed and nofollowed all the user pages via yoast and i’ll just manually scan the profiles every so often looking for spammers
