The black bar along the top of the site for logged in users is the WordPress admin bar (the “Howdy, name” bar). UsersWP can hide it per user role, so your members do not see it and you still do as an admin.
- Go to UsersWP > Redirects.
- Find the section for the role your members have, usually Subscriber.
- Tick Hide Admin Bar.
- Repeat for any other roles, leave Administrator unticked, and save.
UsersWP checks the user’s main role, so users with several roles follow the setting for the first one.
Login Redirect Page on the same screen also applies per role. If you had not used this screen before, check those values after saving, because they override the general login redirect.
Keep members out of wp-admin too
Hiding the bar does not stop users from typing /wp-admin/. To block it, use Restrict wp-admin on UsersWP > General > Login and choose the roles that should be kept out. Subscribers are restricted by default.
Without UsersWP settings
If you prefer code, this hides the bar for everyone who cannot manage the site:
add_filter( 'show_admin_bar', 'my_hide_admin_bar' );
function my_hide_admin_bar( $show ) {
return current_user_can( 'manage_options' ) ? $show : false;
}
Each user can also turn the bar off for themselves with the “Show Toolbar when viewing site” option on their WordPress profile.
